Nintendo Switch 2 Launching June 5: Everything You Need to Know

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Nintendo has officially unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2 during its highly anticipated Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, 2025. The next-generation console is set to launch worldwide on June 5, 2025.

Enhanced Hardware and Features

The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts significant hardware improvements over its predecessor. It features a 7.9-inch 1080p HDR LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, delivering smoother and more vibrant visuals. The console supports gameplay at up to 120 frames per second, depending on the title. Additionally, the device offers 256 GB of internal storage, providing ample space for games and applications.

A notable addition is the redesigned Joy-Con controllers, which are larger and attach magnetically to the console. These controllers include a new “C” button that grants access to GameChat, a feature enabling voice and video communication during gameplay. The Joy-Cons also function similarly to a computer mouse for compatible games, enhancing control options.

The Switch 2’s dock has been upgraded to support 4K resolution at 60fps and includes a built-in fan for improved cooling. The console also features two USB-C ports for charging and accessories.

GameCube Classics and Backward Compatibility

In a move that has excited fans, Nintendo announced that GameCube titles will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 via Nintendo Switch Online. This addition brings classic games like “The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker” to the platform. To complement this, a new wireless GameCube controller will be released alongside the console.

The Switch 2 also offers backward compatibility with original Switch games, ensuring that players can continue enjoying their existing libraries.

Launch Titles and Upcoming Games

The Nintendo Switch 2 will debut with an impressive lineup of games. “Mario Kart World” leads the charge as a launch title, offering innovative features such as the ability to race in various real-world locations with dynamic environments and support for up to 24 drivers.

Other titles include enhanced versions of “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” and “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” both optimized for the new hardware. Additionally, “Super Mario Party Jamboree” is set to release on July 24, 2025, featuring expanded content and integration with the new Joy-Con capabilities.

Third-party support is robust, with games like “Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition,” “Hades 2,” and “Street Fighter 6” confirmed for the platform. These additions highlight Nintendo’s commitment to offering a diverse gaming experience on the Switch 2.

Pre-Orders and Availability

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will begin on April 9, 2025, through various retailers, including Amazon, El Corte Inglés, Fnac, and GAME. While the exact pricing details have yet to be announced, Nintendo assures that more information will be provided in the coming weeks.

As the gaming community eagerly awaits the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2, today’s announcements have undoubtedly set the stage for what promises to be one of the most significant console launches in recent years.
