Hyperkin reveals Playstation-like controller at CES 2025, compatible with Xbox

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Hyperlink has unveiled a new controller that appears to be heavily inspired by the PlayStation 5 controller but is compatible with Xbox instead.

Summary: Hyperkin has introduced “The Competitor,” a controller designed in the style of the DualSense 5, compatible with both Xbox and PC at CES 2025. While it resembles the PlayStation design, it doesn’t include haptic feedback or adaptive triggers. Instead, it features Hall Effect Triggers and Joysticks for enhanced durability. The controller also comes with a microphone mute button and programmable back buttons, although release details are still to be announced.

If you’re an Xbox gamer who enjoys the feel of a DualSense, you’re in luck. Hyperkin, a gaming peripheral manufacturer based in LA, has unveiled a new controller designed in the style of the DualSense 5 that will be compatible with both Xbox consoles and PC at CES 2025.

The gamepad, dubbed ‘The Competitor’, showcases a distinctly PlayStation-inspired design. Featuring a transparent d-pad and textured thumbsticks, Hyperkin has successfully emulated the aesthetic and tactile experience of Sony’s DualSense controller. This resemblance raises questions about potential patent or copyright infringements.

While The Competitor lacks the haptic and adaptive triggers found in a DualSense, it is equipped with Hall Effect Triggers and Joysticks, which are regarded as a premium feature in gamepad design. These joystick types utilize magnetic technology rather than mechanical parts, providing enhanced durability and reducing the risk of stick drift. Additionally, the controller includes a microphone mute button and two programmable back buttons for added functionality.

Hyperkin has not provided a release date or pricing to accompany The Competitor. However, assuming that Sony’s lawyers don’t come knocking: you can expect to see it show up at some stage in 2025.
